As January draws to a close, so too does the relatively new concept of Veganuary. Something that was almost unheard of a couple of years ago, has now become embedded in the national psyche, and giving up all animal products is seen as a fast track to environmental nirvana. Yet, in the midst of these oscillating and confusing messages about meat, where we source our fruit and vegetables from is often overlooked. We import 42% of our vegetables and a startling 89% of our fruit, predominantly from water stressed countries where we are increasingly dependent on their precious water resources.
